As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world as we know it and affected everyone. Its impact on the Arts has been dramatic, resulting in many musicians, venues and businesses struggling to continue.
Opera dei Lumi had exciting plans for 2020 ‒ our first staged opera production, no less. It was a great disappointment that this could not happen. Bearing in mind that Opera dei Lumi is very much still a fledgling venture, with very limited resources, rather than rush into new plans, we decided to take a step back and see what would be possible for musical events in a COVID-19 world. This was not an easy decision, but was definitely the most sensible way forward for ODL in 2020.
With the roll out of the vaccine programme in spring 2021 and lock down restrictions easing, we are excited to have concert plans in the pipeline for Newcastle and the Scottish Borders in August. As part of these plans, we are also looking to do our first live stream, so people can enjoy our music making from the comfort of their own homes if they would prefer. Stay tuned, as we're remaining flexible to any changes in rules that may be coming our way.
We look forward to sharing music with you again in the near future, whether in the concert hall or in your living room. In the meantime, I want thank everyone for their continued support for ODL in these trying times.
