Based in London, Lancastrian soprano Angela Hicks is a versatile singer, experienced in oratorio, theatre, medieval, renaissance, chamber music and recitals with organ, piano and lute.
Since embarking on her musical career, she has performed internationally, establishing herself as a specialist in the baroque repertoire. She has appeared as a soloist in many prominent venues thought the UK and Europe, including Wigmore Hall, La Scala, Berlin and Paris Philharmonie, Palace of Versailles, Barcelona’s Palau de la musica, to name a few.
Angela is a member of a number of leading UK ensembles including The Monteverdi Choir, directed by Sir John Eliot Gardiner, with whom she appears as both a soloist and part of the choir.
Solo recordings include Bach cantata BWV151, and Handel’s Semele (singing the role of Cupid), both with John Eliot Gardiner and the English Baroque Soloists, and their record label Soli Deo Gloria. Also, Angela recently appeared in the Oscar-winning film, The Favourite, alongside Emma Stone and Rachael Weisz, in which she sang Henry Purcell’s, Musick for a while.
Angela co-founded the group Fair Oriana, an early music ensemble with a contemporary twist. They will release their first recording later this year - a complete collection of Thomas Morley’s canzonets for two voices.
